14.0 Democratic Leaders & News Feeds on Twitter

December 12th, 2008 by Jerell | Filed under Politics.

For all of my Democratic friends I know that you are really in need of some great Twitter links for some of the top Democratic leaders.  Please enjoy.

@BarackObama   but he stopped tweeting as of
@algore   yes, the verified real Al Gore, or at least according to the Los Angeles Times
@ObamaNews   All of Barack Obama’s RSS feeds on Twitter, Official News, Unofficial Twitter
@JosephBiden and @Biden   Senator and Democratic VP Candidate - Official News, Unofficial Twitter
@NancyPelosi   News from the Speaker of the House of Representatives - Official News, Unofficial Twitter
@ClintonNews   Hillary Clinton News
@DianneFeinstein   Dianne Feinstein News
@TedKennedy   News from Senator Ted Kennedy - Official News, Unofficial Twitter
@HarryReid   News from Harry Reid, Majority Leader, U.S. Senate - Official News, Unofficial Twitter Account
@DickDurbin   News from Dick Durbin, Majority Whip, U.S. Senate - Official News, Unofficial Twitter
@JamesClyburn   News from James Clyburn, Majority Whip, U.S. House of Representatives
@QueenofSpain   Yes I know she doesn’t hold an office.  Why is she here then? Easy, she must have tweeted about Obama 15,000 times during the election.

@MichelleObama   Well not really.  I wanted to post it as an example of how a spammer got a hold of a name and tried to use it for nefarious reasons that none of us like.

By no means are the Twitters the sole elete of Democrats on Twitter, but just a quick snapshot of who and what is out there.

What Democratic Twitters do you think should be here?

    Hey Jerell, thought you might want to know that the @ObamaNews link actually goes to @BarackObama.

    You might be interested to know I run all of those except @MichelleObama @BarackObama @QueenofSpain and @algore. Notice a lot of them link to

    Part of the problem that I found is that there are not direct Twitter news feeds set up. Or if they are out there I don’t know about them and they are not easily searchable. I thought it was interesting how you were behind these news feeds, and not the real individual themselves. What motivated you to set them up in the first place?

    Also I keep hearing how the Democrats left the Republicans in the dust on Twitter this election season, and couldn’t agree more. But where are the actual Democratic and Republican leaders or leaderships on Twitter? I see Obama, Gore, but really no one else, and I want to find them. I keep finding a lot of folks who provide their commentary on them, but not the real people themselves. If the Democratic and Republican leadership have really grasped the impact of Twitter, then why don’t more of them have a verifiable presence. If there is a database or search ability to find them, and I just never found it, than I stand corrected in my observation.

    I set them up to drive traffic to my site PolFeeds. For the most part I just post the news produced by their offices which I syndicate on PolFeeds. Although I occasionally post a few other things. I also run @SarahPalin @McCainNews @Boehner @RepRoyBlunt and tons more Reps and Dems.

    There are a lot of real Representatives on Twitter, although actually Republicans are doing much better on Twitter than Dems, excluding Obama that is. Take a look at @JohnCulberson or @EricCantor. Other Reps really on Twitter are @timryan @gopleader @johnboehner. They’re out there, you just have to find them. As for differentiating them from fake accounts, I try to put “Unofficial Twitter” in all of the descriptions on accounts I run (although I’m obviously missing a few).

    There’s are a few lists out there: http://www.nickifaulk.com/2008/08/04/congress-twitters-critters/ and http://twitter.pbwiki.com/USGovernment, but none of these are complete.
